| Thenia Hemings Wayles, born 1767 Dear Bob, From: "robert m atkins" <bradyenterpriseassociationinc@verizon.net> Dr. Brady asked that I write a response to your inquiry, and wish you God speed in your endeavor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Monroe_Trotter. We gleamed the name Letitia from this site. Also you might want to touch base with Beverly Gray of Chilicothe, Ohio. She has done a lot of work researching African-Americans associated with the Civil War era and before. http://www.lwfaah.net/oh/gray.htm My speculation is that not only did James Trotter marry a descendent of Thomas Jefferson but also himself was possibly descended from Thenia Hemings who was leased by Jefferson to James Monroe who sometime during or after 1794 moved her and his likely children via her out of Virginia. You might want to dig further considering that at least one Hemings male enlisted in the Civil War is recorded as born in Mississippi and the remains of one son to Madison Hemings is buried there. My point to be further researched is that Hemings, Jefferson, Monroe, Randolph and Trotter offspring were cousins yet to be defined in and out of Ohio.
