Nancy Lee Banister, born abt 1825

Dr. Brady...My family has traced our heritage to the "Nancy" and her three children listed in Robert E. Lee's will dated 1846.  Is that the same Nancy (born in 1825) that you describe in your web site?

Robert M. Catlin, Colonel, USAF (ret)

Col Atkins…My family is descended from Lee Jones who was born in 1836 in Albermarle County, VA.  His younger siblings were Summerville (Summy) Jones and Mary Jones-Morehead.  Lee Jones became a Baptist minister and farmer.  Their mother was Nancy, however I’m not sure she is the same “Nancy” as your Nancy Lee.  Mary Jones-Morehead inherited the family property that was part of the Robert E. Lee estate.

Lee Jones’ son was Robert Lee Jones (my great grandfather), born in 1863 in Albermarle County, VA.  As a young man, Robert Lee Jones had to quickly leave VA (altercation with a white Lee).  He settled in Salem OH where he was a horse trainer and farmer.

I have copied my Aunt Barbara Lee Catlin-Hill and my cousin, Ramona Catlin.  We are working together on documenting our family history.  Any additional information you may have on Nancy referenced in Robert E. Lee’s will dated 1846 would be greatly appreciated.

Best Wishes.

Robert M. Catlin, Colonel, USAF (ret)

Just a follow-up to my previous reply.  I am interested to know which of Nancy Lee’s three children you are interested in?  And any locations not known to us.  We have tried to pin down the various places she travelled to with the Custiss/Lee family before and after the Civil War.  Any information you have regarding the Bannister siblings would be especially interesting to us.

Best Regards,

Robert M. Atkins, LTC, USA (ret)
