Planning helpful social and recreation activities for boys, girls, and adults in the context of community living was a major function of Colored Women's Clubs, ... as it was and remains among civic associations of White and Asian women. Cora Lee Hill Atkins in her later years would bemoan the fact that so many Black mothers no longer participated in planning any activities useful to community living; and instead rely upon programs provided by outside agencies and groups of women to essentially raise their children for them and results are self evident.
